Marv

I broke my heel bone and another bone in my foot back in April. The doctors have had their hands full trying to save my foot. I have Agent Orange induced Diabetes from Vietnam and experience typical diabetes issues. Before the bone healed completely, I was at the VA in Amarillo, I ran into Jamie there he was in the marines, Arzella's husband. Anyway a pressure sore had developed on the back of the heel, the flesh had degraded all the way to the bone. They were concerned about removing the foot for the second time. Well, I have been going to a wound care center in Lubbock now for about five weeks and the sore, after several skin grafts is healing. I am walking on the foot without a cane for short distances now and I think I see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Having been in the military and seeing combat up close and personal, I encourage everyone to pray for all the troops in harm's way. I go to the vet center in Lubbock and have spoken with several soldiers who have returned. They tell me their biggest problem is driving. They catch themselves looking for likely ambush locations and sometimes have to pull over and stop foor a while. If you see one thank them for their service protecting our freedom.

Hello Folks, Just checking in. Good to see more of our "peeps" logging on here. I think we need more repeat visitors, though. Anyway, here's my little update. We've had really nice weather out here on the East Coast, expecting some rain later this week. I'm about to start my next home improvement project soon. Gonna build a new entry door for this old house. After that I want to do a partial remodel of my shop. Remodeling the shop never ends.
As far as I know I still have money in my 401K. I'm scared to look at it!! I don't even want to think about it!! I leave it to Pat, she's the CFO around here and she's good at it.
Took my dogs to the vet, they've now been fixed. Seems to have settled 'em down. They were getting a little out of hand.
I know, this is all SOOO riveting.......
Here's a Pic of me and Wren this last summer in TX.
Ya'll take care, Love Ya...

Greetings from the Great Northwest! I'm Gwen, the youngest daughter of Junior and Thelma, grand-daughter of Mama and Papa. I grew-up in Sundown, TX and tried to keep up with Marv, except for the part about 'getting into trouble'. After graduating from Sundown High, I was encouraged by my Mama and Daddy to move away. Daddy wanted me to experience the world outside of West Texas. He always told me I could be anything I wanted to be but the choices were pretty slim in Sundown. I moved to Ft Worth/Dallas where I worked for a computer company and met my husband John who was from El Paso. We married in 1981 and in 1984 after living through some summers that were miserably HOT we decided to move to Seattle. I'm not sure Daddy really meant for me to go that far but what a trip it's been. The last 20 years I've worked for Spacelabs Medical, a company that manufactures hospital monitoring equipment. Currently, I manage the Global Tech Support group. I love the Northwest and can't imagine ever living without the trees, water and mountains.
I have really fond memories of growing up in such a large family with so many cousins and the best aunts and uncles. I very often told Mama and Daddy that I was sure glad that I was born to them and came from such a good strong Christian family. I miss them both terribly!
I'm really looking forward to hearing about everyone on this blog. I hope that everyone will continue to spread the word and we can all keep up with our extended family.

Hi, this is Judy Blanton, Loy Sherry's youngest daughter. This is the coolest idea, blogging. I've never done it before, so bear with me.

Wanted to fill you all in on my sister, Wanda. As most of you know, she is terminally ill with cancer. (what an evil disease!) She is slipping down hill very rapidly. The cancer has spread from her lung and brain to her liver and lymph nodes. She steadfastly keeps to her chemo schedule every week, but I can't see any improvement, only decline. Keep her and her family in your prayers, please.

Chelsea, it was great to read about you and your little family all the way up in Alaska. Ken and I took a cruise up the inland passage a few years ago and I can understand why you love it. It is a beautiful state--very serene.

Let's keep this blog going. I'll try to remember to check my e-mail regularly.

Are there any family members in Ike's path?
I spoke with Johnny the other day. He said Mary was trying to get their new computer operating and would send me their email when she got it running.

Lenora---#12 child of R.L. & Lenora Tisdale

I'm so slow at learning anything new on this computer that I just got off the phone with BW. I know he gets tired of trying to keep us going. I am really excited about the blog and wish more had "'puters" so we could all talk to each other. We wouldn't even need the "big letter".
Yesterday Eureta went to Amarillo with Wayne and I and we saw Joan,Inez and Denise. Was good to see them and they seemed to be doing good. I really hope Denise will add to this.
I'm looking froward to more people on the blog..................Love ya'll all. Lenora

Daryl good to hear that the cane wasn't too bad. Better safe than sorry I guess.

Did y'all hear? I was talking to Johnny yesterday, he said that Terrance accepted the job in East Texas. I don't remember the town, but I think close to Fairfield State Park. Don't know when he will get moved but he'll be closer to his parents and brothers than he is in McAllen.

As far as Sam goes, when we moved to Pennsylvania in 1991 we took our poodle with us. After a while the dog literally went nuts. We had to put him down. I hope that isn't what you have to do. Hard on the kids, much less the poor dog.

Daryl

Let's see....Hurricane Hanna was hyped way out of proportion. The Weather Channel beat it like a rented mule. It turned out to be a non-event. Little rain and little wind for us. Sort of depended on where you were during the storm. We did make some preparations. After Isabel, five yrs ago, we'll take no chances.
Meanwhile, any of ya'll down in South Texas, especially Terence and Debbie and their crew, had best hunker down. Ike appears to be a serious threat.
On a different track. Does anyone know anything about dog behavior? My poodle has lost his mind. He's started to get overly aggressive with the chihuahua, and sometimes with the kids. I really like Sam, but he's digging himself a hole. I suppose it's time for a vet visit for the both of them.
Later Folks....

Lonnie Massey

I’m the middle boy of Lenora and Wayne’s bunch. We grew up on the High Plains in Plainview, Texas. After I graduated from PHS, I started my long college career, where I managed to squeeze four years into six. I taught school for a total of sixteen years, and the last nine years I’ve been the Network Admin and now Technology Coordinator for Everman ISD just south of Fort Worth.

Twenty years ago, I married Robin, a Fort Worth girl who was teaching fifth grade at the school where I was teaching music. She’s back teaching reading in the same school, and now we have three kids:

Laura is seventeen and a senior at Arlington Heights High School. She’s on the varsity tennis team and trying to decide where she wants to go to college. She enjoyed her summer working as a junior counselor at Camp Carter here in Fort Worth.

Daniel is fourteen and a freshman at Arlington Heights. He is also on the tennis team, and enjoys Frisbee and playing computer games.

Katie is also fourteen and a freshman at Heights. She is enjoying tennis, too, and loves to draw and chat with her friends on the computer.

Our two cats, Buddy and Gracie, tolerate us most of the time.

I am proud to be a part of this family. Mama and Papa’s legacy will live for a long time. Maybe this blog will help carry it forward.

Hi Family,

Since I'm lazy and have a limited amount of time, I've copied a portion of my bio to add to this blog. I'm the daughter of Ermon and Inez, grand daughter of Mama and Papa (R.L. Tisdale). I was born in Borger, Texas, and grew up in Amarillo. Hope the following gives you a sense of who I am w/out boring you to tears!
"Both sets of her grandparents were hard-working cotton farmers with very large families living in the Texas Panhandle during the Great Depression and Dust Bowl. Molded by a strong work ethic and the desire to do her best, at age 12 she got her first job -- washing dishes in a cafĂ© on Route 66. A good student, she graduated from Palo Duro High a year early and attended WTSU one semester. She got bored fast, so she quit college and took a job at the Amarillo Globe News where she worked until she married and moved to Nashville, Tennessee. Having grown up in the Methodist Church, it was natural to go to work for The United Methodist Publishing House when she arrived in Nashville. She later moved to United Methodist Communications where she worked for nearly 20 years. Starting as a production secretary, she consistently took on increasing responsibilities in the areas of audiovisual production and marketing and moved steadily up the ladder. As Director of Marketing for the Public Media Division (headquartered in New York City), she designed and implemented marketing strategies, supervised print and audiovisual production, controlled departmental budgets, and supervised staff. She designed the strategy that resulted in the second most affiliate placements ever for an NBC religious program. Only Billy Graham’s Crusade in Russia had a larger audience. While at UMCOM she produced hundreds of media projects—films, videos, television spots, filmstrips and sound recordings. Other achievements at UMCOM: International award-winning film producer. (Two CINE Golden Eagles); Adjunct Faculty Member to Vanderbilt Divinity School/Supervised graduate student interns in Religious Communications; Awarded Nashville Executive Woman of the Year, 1977.Wanting to experience life in other parts of the world she decided to free-lance. That decision took her to Australia to work, and on to Russia as a citizen diplomat. Over the years, she developed a keen awareness of many of the problems facing the planet—both economically and environmentally. She participated in the planning for the Earth Summit held in Rio de Janeiro. In 2006 she and her husband, Jamie, moved to Amarillo to care for her elderly mother." They currently live in a "little house on the prairie"--which is a part of The Frying Pan Ranch. I am now working to help build Mariposa Ecovillage, an economically and ecologically sustainable community on the outskirts of Amarillo. If you are ever in the neighborhood, give us a call, we'd love to have you stop by. 806.426.3002

New to the blog

Hi all! I'm the daughter of Marvin Tisdale, grand-daughter of R.L. and Thelma Tisdale. Just to tell you all a little bit about myself - I grew up in Pennsylvania, where I spent most of my childhood and later moved back to Texas. I graduated from the massive high school of Sundown and went to college. After four and a half years, I graduated from Texas Tech with my Bachelor's in Human Development and Family Studies. I now work for the Department of Family and Protective Services, where I am a Children's Protective Services case worker. I enjoy my job most of the time - it definately takes up about 90% of my life. I miss my grandparents more than anyone knows and would love to meet others in the family and hear stories of our interesting family!

Brad Barker Family

Brad Barker is the son of Bobby Barker, grandson of Irma Leta Box (Tisdale), great-grandson of R. L. Tisdale, and great great-grandson of Landon L. Tisdale. Brad and M'liss were high school sweethearts and were married in 1995. They were both raised in Dumas, went to college at Texas Tech University and moved back to Dumas where they have been ever since. Brad has owned and managed Powell Abstract Co. for 12 years. He is a wonderful father who works hard but is never too tired or too busy to play with his children. He enjoys jeeping and all kinds of bike riding.
M'liss is a 'stay-at-home' mom and homeschools the children. She also stays busy having the children practice the violin and piano. They take piano lessons in Dumas, but their violin lessons are in Amarillo and they have many performances a year. M'liss loves photography, scrapbooking and preserving family memories.
Calvin James (11 yrs.) is a great student at homeschool (5th grade), piano and violin. Calvin's hobbies are racing BMX bikes and mountain biking and road biking with his dad. He also loves dogs, training dogs, grooming dogs, etc. He has two dogs of his own and two that he rescued from the shelter and is trying to re-home. He has a dog walking business and walks about 8 dogs a day. He also helps the dog groomer that lives at the end of our street. Calvin is a big fan of the 'Dog Whisperer' and is a great pack leader himself.
Ana Belle (6yrs.) is our 'little spot', or should we say 'big burst,' of sunshine with her beautiful big naturally curly hair and a big personality to match. She was named after her great grandmother, Ara Belle Burks (Janice's mother). She is doing kindergarten homeschool and is taking piano and violin lessons. She keeps up with her big brother very well and is somewhat of a 'tom boy.' She loves bikes, dogs, horses, frogs and bugs and would live outside if she could. She spends a lot of time feeding the horses that live in the field across the street. The most common thing said about Ana Belle is, 'I wish I had some of her energy!'
Benjamin Wayne (10 mo.) is the newest member of our family. He was not always "in the plan." Long story short, Brad had to have his vasectomy reversed because of complications and in the process he and M'liss realized they should have more children. Now, after much scripture reading and prayer, they have given their family planning to God and will welcome as many children as he sees fit to give them. Benjamin is such a funny and sweet baby and is adored by all. He crawls very fast all over the house and will be walking soon and is into everything now. Calvin and Ana are crazy about him and are great babysitters. We can't imagine this family without Baby Ben!
Family is very important to us and we are excited to get to know this part of our family better!
M'liss Barker

David Tisdale

Hello I'm David, Linvell son, Juniors, Grandson. All is well with this family. I am married to Shaunda with two kids. Jayson age 8 and Jadyn age 2. We live in Amarillo, TX and enjoying life and all the encounters. I am currently working for a chemical company as a Sales/Service Manager. My wife is currently working as a Director of Therapy at a long-term care facility in Amarillo. Jayson is trying to figure out how to get out of homework and Jadyn is busy trying tear up, trash, and ultimately make sure mom and dad do not sit down at any given time. Grandma and Papa come to see them also and seem to leave promptly to get some rest for themselves. That just makes me laugh and I can not wait to have Grandkids for the same reason. Send them home and rest. HA HA.

Daryl Massey

Hey folks, I'm Lenora's #4 of 5. Raised in Plainview TX. Joined the Navy in '84, I was a BT(Boiler Technician). Gave them 13yrs and made 1st class, but after 3 Med. cruises and countless other underway periods it just was'nt too much fun any more. I live in Chesapeake VA with my wife, Pat. Two step daughters grown and out of the house. My son, Brady is in NY with his mom. 5 grandsons between the girls. Four mostly useless dogs, two vehicles, and a partridge in a pear tree.
I work for a millwork company, where I'm the head finisher. Spray miles and miles of mouldings, cabinets, doors, etc. Paint or clear lacquer, always something different. If you can draw it we can build it, and I'll finish it. A nice perk is being able to bring home nice material to build things for the family. I've got my own backyard shop that's always got something going on in it.
I hope this blog thing takes off. Marvin, this is a good idea.

Marv Tisdale

I think it would be a good idea if everyone would post a blurb on themselves. This would allow everyone to know who they are, what they are doing, etc...

I grew up in Sundown, Texas hunting rabbits, playing football, and getting into trouble. After high school I joined the Air Force. After basic training I was recruited into the Official Security Investigation (OSI). The OSI is the Intelligence/Counter Intelligence/ Target Suppression branch in the Air Force oftn referred to as G2. I pulled missions in Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia during the Vietnam war where I was wounded. I received a Purple Heart and Two Bronze Stars for valor. After the service I returned to the books and earned a tech degree in Electronics Engineering landing a position for a computer company. I married the cute secretary in the front office in 1975 and have three children, Josh, Tara, and Amy. I retired in 2000 as the Director of Sales and Service from a BioMedical firm and moved back to Texas. I suffered a stroke in 2005 and was in a wheel chair for a year. Shortly after the stroke the doctors said I was experiencing PTSD symptoms and recommended I be seen by a dr. at the local Veterans Administration. The VA attempted to retreive my military files and I discovered my file was classified Top Secret with no release date assigned. My congressman was able to obtain a summary letter of my file which was sufficient for the VA to assign me 100% compensation. I am out of the wheel chair and walking, or almost, I bought a motorcycle several months back, a week later wrecked and broke my foot. I doing better now....
I look forward to blurbs on other family members.
FYI Chelsea Tisdale must be a whiz. I barely had this blog going and she requested authorization to post. Nikki I know you must be proud of her.

This is an attempt to create a Tisdale Family Blog. Feel free to post to the blog anytime you want. I would like for you to remove postings that has been on the blog for 60 days. This is an arbitrary number of days and I only request the removal so that the blog doesn't get to cumbersome. I am the administrator but I will not oversee the blog, that is up to the posters. In other words if you post news sometime in the future please remove the posting. Let's see how this works. If you have suggestions or ideas regarding the blog please post your comments and we'll see if the idea can be implemented. I want this to be a "Family Blog" not my blog. This is the first time I have attempted to create a blog so I am learning. I'm certain someone in the family has more experience than I do and I welcome your comments and guidance. My email address is marvt52@hotmail.com so if you know a family member that is not on the blog let me know and I willl add them to the blog. This type of communication is only as good as the news that is inputted. (is that a word?) I desperately need a school teacher to help me.
